AIABaltimore Recognizes Washington Monument Restoration

The Washington Monument Restoration was honored by AIABaltimore at their 2015 Excellence in Design Awards celebration, held October 9th. This annual event recognizes achievements in Baltimore’s AIA community, and celebrates the creativity and talent of the local architecture firms. Specific awards were presented to:

  • Lead design professional, CVM, and its architect, Sandra Vicchio & Associates LLC, along with the Mount Vernon Place Conservancy, and the construction manager, Lewis Contractors, were delighted to be honored with the 2015 AIABaltimore Michael F. Trostel, FAIA, Award for Excellence in Historic Preservation. In its comments, the jury noted the complex, technical nature of the restoration, and praised the team for its sensitivity in returning the monument to prominence.
  • The Mount Vernon Place Conservancy, which fundraised for the restoration project and manages the monument on behalf of Baltimore City, received the 2015 Golden Griffin Award. Presented by The Baltimore Architecture Foundation, this award is given to an organization that has demonstrated a dedication to the quality of architecture in Baltimore, and a commitment to stewardship.
  • Worcester Eisenbrandt, Inc., the masonry and wood restoration subcontractor, received an Honorable Mention for their excellent work restoring the vintage exterior doors to a bronze-like patina, to replicate the original Robert Mills design intent.

CVM congratulates all involved for their hard work and dedication to this national treasure!
