University of Pennsylvania, Palestra Roof Monitors

Known as the “Cathedral of College Basketball,” the Palestra was built in 1927 and hosts University of Pennsylvania men’s and women’s basketball, Philadelphia Big 5 basketball and other Quakers sports teams. With an architect, CVM reviewed the building’s roof monitors: an upper clerestory and a set of sloped skylights. Eventually, CVM recommended the rehabilitation of the clerestory and the replacement of the skylights with an aluminum-frame window system with state-of-the-art glazing, the design of which would be informed by historical details and the existing clerestory windows.
