Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Historic Landmark Building

As part of an architect-led team, CVM is performing a partial envelope and facade restoration of the Historic Landmark Building (HLB) on the campus of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia. Designed by celebrated Philadelphia architect Frank Furness and completed in 1876, HLB hosts the school’s permanent collection as well as temporary exhibits from around the country.

Using sensory tools to suggest areas where the existing structure was failing due to air or moisture infiltration, CVM was able to identify specific envelope components that would require intervention, and then develop appropriate design solutions. In order to comply with city standards for historic buildings, these potential rehabilitative efforts were first rigorously reviewed by the Philadelphia Historical Commission.
