Exposed architectural concrete framing elements were found to be failing due to alkali silica reactivity (ASR), leading to progressing deterioration and weakening of the structural building frame. Interim repairs entailed partial shoring as a long term monitoring system was instituted.

CVM performed a petrographic examination that examined and confirmed the ASR, assessed shortcomings of previous remediation measures and ultimately provided a 10-year time strategy to keep the facility operational until its replacement comes on line.
