CVM is excited to announce that we are working with Metcalfe Architecture & Design and Jonathan Alderson Landscape Architects on several new amenities at the renowned Dow Gardens in Midland, MI. The Canopy Walk and Connectivity Project will feature “innovative design elements and programming (that) will create a national model for design-enhanced, visitor-directed outdoor play and exploration.”
The centerpiece of the project is the canopy walk, an elevated pathway stretching 1,100 feet at heights as high as 40 feet off of the ground. Located in the Whiting Forest section of the Gardens, the walk will connect three unique exhibit areas as it weaves between the trees. Construction will begin this fall, with completion expected in 2017. A renovated visitor center, outdoor play space, two pedestrian bridges and education facility are all also planned. CVM is providing structural engineering services for all aspects of the project.
A 110-acre landscape featuring seven different formal environments as well as a native forest, Dow Gardens began at the home of Herbert Dow, founder of The Dow Chemical Company, and today welcomes horticultural enthusiasts and hosts public and private events. Check back for project updates.
