Condition assessments performed in anticipation of a major reroofing program identified noticeable distortion in corner piers of a historically significant building on the quadrangle of this Ivy League campus. Electronic surveys provided reliable out-of-plane dimensions, while flat-jack testing established differential stress levels between the varying masonry wythes, further informing our analysis.
An external steel frame was designed and installed that provided necessary stability for a number of years while future master plans and fundraising occurred, clarifying the future of the building. These brace frames were designed to blend with the exterior even while existing in plain sight.
